The vicinity of water has always been one of the main advantages for building settlements and for that reason the Drava River has determined the location of Varaždin and it has influenced its development into an urban centre. The town has been built near the banks of a capricious river, but far enough so that frequent floods do not endanger it. Nowadays, the river does not pose a danger to its citizens anymore. Actually, it has become the last oasis of peace and vegetation to people who desire rest and relaxation from a town haste and noise.
The diversity of flora and fauna is the main treasure of the Drava Park-Forest and it makes it interesting and attractive throughout the year.
